Hi, I have a customer who is using created maps from mappoint in there own
documentation (word files) that are then given to another company for them to
find client premesis around the UK.
They have now been asked if this is legal use of the software and I didn't
really have a concrete answer for them. I'm presuming as long as they don't
doctor the images and remove the microsoft copyright information from them
they are within the licensing rules to use these images created from
Mappoint? This may seem like a silly question but there is no clear info on
the mappoint website that I can find.

Could anybody tell me what you can and can't do with these images please?

many thanks
Grant

The basic answer is, "It depends." Click on Help, then view the EULA under
"About." Part of it says,
a. Use of Maps.

• You may copy maps and information from maps for your internal,
noncommercial use.
• You may not delete or change any legal or copyright notices.
• You may not use the software to produce sales leads.
<<

However, you'd need a legal opinion about whether your use is non-commercial
(noncommercial isn't a real word, IMO).

I would lean towards it being okay, but second Dick's advice of reading
the EULA and seeking a legal opinion.

Note that this part of the EULA has changed significantly over the past
few versions of MapPoint, so make sure you are checking the correct
version; and perhaps compare to MapPoint 2010's EULA (upgrading might
result in better terms).
